Come'on now..american idol symbolizes everything thats wrong within our society?
i dont get why people always blame ignorance on tv shows. i agree with you that the increased obsession of tv shows is scary but i just see it as entertainment...overrated? of course but its made for fun

I'm utterly serious when I say this: American Idol symbolizes everything that is wrong with America. Most Americans will be able to tell you who got kicked off the show last night but can't tell you when the Civil War occurred within 10 years. We care more about what glorified karaoke singer wins this inane, pointless competition than we do about bettering our own lives or doing something constructive. We all need our distractions, and tv is great for that, but our obsession with this show is scary, pathetic, and dangerous.
i think season 6 made the show jump.
the one where Jordin Sparks won. i
think that was the worst season. it
just got so pointless and i couldnt
even pick a favorite because i didnt
feel anything coming from them. i
barely knew who anyone was. so it
kinda sucked for season 7s contestants.
people got sick of it because of season 6 and they dont want to see another episode of American Idol again because of it.

i feel that american idol quickly takes away most individuality of the winning vocalist! if you watch the liove shows you might like the performances but if you hear the winner's singles you are like "what the fuck???" they are all corporate sludge no depth nothing real about them! i will be physically sick when i hear david cook's debut album he is an excellent vocalist with amazing potential but they will drain the life out of him . the judges have an image of who they want to win and then they win! the truly good or different vocalists are criticised and voted off and simon cowell only knows what sells and that's all he cares about! if there was an edition where they had well know excellent sucessful recording arsists eg. aretha franklin, patti labelle. people of that era that would be a show. it mite be jumpinmg the shark but at least we would see some talent
I stopped watching this show after the third season so i'm intrigued looking at the comments about it. I would also echo something said by one of the commenters who was in the radio business. My father was a radio DJ for twenty years and he loathes this show and many like it. He blames it for the state that the music business is in now, meaning all that matters is looks and appeal instead of talent. Stars of yesterday like Aretha Franklin or Janis Joplin would never have made it in this era because some a-hole like Simon would have told them they didn't have the look of an 'American Idol' whatever that's supposed to mean. This show can't disappear soon enough for me.
American ldol JTS when Ryan lost his boyish, Abercrombie good-looks with the stylishly messed-up hair and beard stubble. He is still handsome but in a boring executive sort of way.
The only two winners who I think actually deserved to win are Carrie Underwood (season 4) and David Cook (season 7). It's a popularity contest and the best singers usually aren't the winners.
Had its funny moments like that guy who sung "You are my brother" and the guy who sang that Jigglypuff song, but...other than that, it's pretty boring unless you like karaoke.
I watched 1 season, the Fantasia season, and that was enough for me. This show blows in so many ways: (1) The 3 judges: no-talent Randy, See No Evil Paula and Simon the Grouch (2) Constantly keeping the audience in suspense w/ cuts to commercials at the critical moment and teasing the contestants w/ false leading sentences (3) Randy's catch-phrase of "pitchy" (4) The overhyped up audience of dopey female teenagers (5) Ryan Seacrest in general (6) The groveling for fame by the contestants (7) a highly flawed audience voting system (8) The cookie cutter approach of "owning" the winner
