as a hardcore transformer fan, I got to ask, why do people like the G1 over Beastwars. I mean, at least on Beast wars the fight scenes were better, with every character being a good shot. There was a continuity, with a actuall plot, the characters had no personality. The original transformers was only created to sell toys, Beast Wars was actuall entertainment.
I find it amazing that the only complaints I've ever read about this show anywhere are from people who don't like the idea of transformers being animals, or simply don't like any transformers besides G1. No one ever faults the characters or stories, which should be a testament to this show's brilliance. Transformers or not, the creators set out to make a science fiction show with stories and characters that could appeal to adults/teens as well as kids (they said so in an interview), and they absolutely achieved that in my opinion. Also, the voice acting was absolutely perfect, I cannot believe how much character, energy, humour and feeling the actors invested into their characters (except for Airazor, she always sounded kinda half-assed to me).
I loved the show and accepted it for what it was. Yes, Tigertron and Airazor were weak characters, and their attraction didn't make perfect sense, but give the writers credit for creatively and properly disposing of them. This is just one example of the writers never leaving loose ends. By the end of the series, all loose ends were addressed and tied away. Yes, there were a lot of seemingly unnecessary character revamps, but the cartoon would not be put on the air to begin with if it wasn't going to sell toys to children. Give the writers credit for introducing and revamping characters in such creative and imaginative ways. People who dismissed the show immediately because it wasn't their original Transformers didn't stick around long enough to see the superior character development and plots, nor did they see the serious homage this series paid to the original series. They did a great service to fans of the original series, not a disservice.
I don't see everyone's problem with the show. I mean, it has a great plot (For the most part), good animation, and it's quite overall fun to watch. And if you compare it to the G1...You'll find that G1 was just run and gun with ALOT of animation errors and not much plot in between (Where in the hell was the Autobot's answer to the Decepticons, Omega Supreme? Stuck in the plotless void...). The reason people prefer G1 to Beast Wars isn't because it's better, its for the nostalgia (They don't want to see anything superior to what they loved)
G1 Transformers, will always be forever better than Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Headmasters, Cybertron, etc etc.
Beast Wars was great. I was scanning through TV channels one day and it's computer animation caught my eye and that was that. I didn't follow Transformers before that, heard of them tho', so Beast Wars was a totally new deal for me.I was able to enjoy the show without being in a position to make comparisons. It reached its absolute apex with the passing of Dinobot and how that event was handled. Superb!! I never got the chance to watch any further episodes so I have no idea if the show tanked or jumped.
totally agree with the fact that beast wars is not considered to aim at kids because I swear i did not know what was going on in most episodes till i became a teenager with all the technological vocabulary, the plot and especially dinobots to be or not to be how is a kid suppose to figure out he was about to comtemplate suicide (none of us would figure that out till we hit the teen age (nope never jumped)
I don't know what is wrong with the world. This show was virtually unwatchable! I saw the first episode on Youtube. The original He-Man was better than this show. And to even mention it in the same sentence as G1 Transformers...unbelievable. Megatron was a T-Rex! A T-Rex!!! And he talked like Fraser. Like some annoying professor. If I want animals, I watch Animal Planet, not Transformers. Terrorize! Maximize! How could anyone enjoy this drivel?
Transformers never really appealed to me, but when BeastWars came out it was the animation and character development that kept me coming back. Totally jumped the shark when they did away with Dinobot and Beast Machines was a dismal failure (got rid of Rhinox and made the characters weaker).
The Show never jumped! It was a terrific show full of amazing visuals and amazing characters. Some new concepts, such as Transmetal II, was completely ridiculous, but the show introduced great new characters. I actually liked the introduction of Tigerhawk, because it brought great hope to the Maximals that they can win. Sadly it was in vain as he was killed the next episode. The whole third season was amazing also, because Season Two tipped the battle in favor of the Predacons, with characters such as Rampage were introduced. The third season brought more to the Maximals with Optimal Optimus. The introduction of Depth Charge was a great point in the show, as it brought a new Subplot and rivalry of Depth Charge vs. Rampage, a much more heated rivalry than Optimus and Megatron. The show in fact jumped the shark when it went to Beast Machines, such a terrible show.
Beast Wars never jumped - it was on a high right up to the end. Beast Machines on the other hand jumped from day one - thankfully that's a different show.
The show did jump the shark when they left earth and went back to where ever the hell they came from. After that it sucked hard core I'd watch one episode and i was lost. They should just left it as beast wars instead of beast machine or just ened it all together. I wish they showed the old ones somewhere though or made new a beast wars. That would kick ass. Also the character addition sucked. F**kin pissed me off to see 5 billion predicons but like only 8 maximals. It just seemed to get gay over time.If i was them i would have continued it in someway i mean look at gay power ranger i dont know how man they have made and no one watches it.
Although the third season wasn't as awesome as the second, and Hasbro really sold out by changing/adding characters just to sell new toys and killing off most of the characters just seemed a setup for Beast Machines, I'd say Beast Wars just missed jumping the shark thanks to the fact it was still the same show underneath. Also, the death of Ramage was awesome.
