They are not supposed to be in order its not corro or some other soap they were filmed in order but just random situation like on hole 1st episode of the third series they fall and die there but there's still another episode and Guest House Paradiso is completely different it's the same actors and the same charcter material but just last surnames and live somewhere different, in fact it wasn't even suppposed to be bottom but they called it the bottom movie because they thought it would be funnier if eddie and richie ran a hotel.
(QUOTE)I thought that Richie and Eddie were supposed to have been wiped out by an SAS squad at the end of the last episode. So where does that place the movie?

The movie is Hotel Paradiso, same characters but in a different time and situation, maybe it's even set before the Bottom scenario.
I stumbled across Bottom after purchasing The Young Ones DVD set. The first episode of Bottom was in the extras. That episode alone forced me to buy the Bottom DVD set. I was not disappointed. The best parts of TYO are found in Bottom. The second episode "Gas" had me in tears laughing. If you are a fan of TYO, you must get the Bottom DVD set. This show never came close to jumping and is far funnier than TYO.
I got into this from The Young Ones and TYO is by far superior. Bottom is like all the worst bits about TYO, all the toilet humour, slapstick and sex gags. I like the surrealism and the politics and the satire of the TYO. I like how they'd cut away to little scenes that were totally irrelevant. And how Rik would blame everything on Thatcher and Fascists. It was like Mike and Vyvian were the right-wing and Rik and Neil were the left-wing. Bottom is okay but after watching all 18 episodes it got a bit old. If it ever jumped I think it's where Richard saws Eddie's legs off and sews them back on. Too ridiculous.
"Oh Eddie, why are you an alcoholic?" "Because I drink a lot." Classic. And while it is lowbrow, it is also a pretty clever analysis of two people who hate each other but who are forced together by their own mutual uselessness. You have to feel for both of them a bit sometimes. Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall based it on "Waiting for Godot", like a naughty cousin, about the boredom of life. And I've never seen another show so packed with jokes. Obviously the violence and willy jokes stand out, but every line is intended to be funny, even just by some silly infliction. Edmondson and Mayall clearly have such passion for the show. This is a classless classic and certainly deserves another look. It never did jump.
I agree with the others that say this show never jumped. I loved every episode, all the live shows and the movie (even though they were different characters the humor is similiar). Hole still stands out as one of my favorite episodes, but I love them all equally and I burst out laughing even with repeated viewings.
First two series were absolute classics; the third got a bit strange and definitely patchier, but it's worth remembering that it still had the absolute classic "circus wheel" episode. No, it all went downhill with the live shows; too long, too little variety (the TV shows had set changes and natural breaks), started playing to the audience at the expense of everything else, and the writing was really crap from the third one onwards. Never seen the film properly, but it looked fairly crap to me.
Regardless of whether or not Bottom ever jumped (and I don't believe it did), series 2 contains one of the greatest lines ever: "You do realise that paper is upside down?" - "So are my eyes" Brilliant.
The episode in which Eddie and Richie are stuck at the top of a ferris wheel is likely the funniest thing I have ever seen. 'Bottom' is not for everyone, but for people like me, no one does it better than Rik and Ade.
"May i say what a smashing blouse you have on?" I noticed a few people have mentioned that the humour is particularly low-brow. I say what's wrong with that? I quite like shows like The League of Gentlemen and Police Squad! that require the audience to think, but sometimes you need the other side of the coin too. What do those people think of The Young Ones? A very subversive, irreverent and anarchic anti-establishment programme that broke a few boundaries (live bands in a sit-com?) but was awash with dirty pants, farting and bogey-eating. Plus, BOTTOM was pretty educational too. I learnt the word pedantic from the show, which has stood me in good stead so far... My fave has got to be S'OUT, on Wimbledon common. "Eddie, Wombles don't exist." "Oh yes they do, i've seen them on the telly." Where the live shows are concerned, brilliant up until Arse Odditty which was absolute garbage. I can only remember laughing at 2 points; 1. "Increase the vyoltage!" 2. Where Eddie chats himself up, shags himself and proceeds to have an argument with himself.
I personally thought this show was a riot and never jumped the shark!!! My fave episodes are 'Culture', 'Hole'(the ep where Rich and Eddie are stuck on a Ferris wheel!) and 'Terror'. Even though it may not be on TV anymore, I will NEVER admit to this show jumping the shark!
Eddie and Richie could never jump the shark (although Richie might try unsuccessfully to seduce it) - it was sheer brilliance from start to finish. Even the film. In reply to the person who commented about them being killed by an SAS squad at the end of the last season, two points: 1: they "died" at the end of almost every episode of that season and in each of the first 3 live shows, but always came back again. The only sensible conclusion to draw is that they are in fact immortal. 2:the Eddie and Richie in the film were different people. In the series Richie's full name was Richard Richard and Eddie's was Edward Elizabeth Hitler. In the film, however, Richie was Richard Twat (pronounced "thwaite") and Eddie had some indecipherable African-sounding surname. You see? Not even related!
The show was always ridiculous but the last series was just so ludicrous it wasn't funny. Also, Rick Mayall's masturbation jokes became increasingly weary. Otherwise, previously it had been a great show. 'Culture' is the best episode.
This show never jumped the shark! It was consistently funny right up to the end. Even then, it lived in stage plays and a movie. The best episodes were from Season 2 when the show reached its peak. These include Digger( my favourite Bottom episode ), Culture, Burglary, Holy and S'Out. The other seasons were good too and had some great shows. It's a shame it's not on TV anymore but I saw the latest stage show, 2001: An Arse Oddity, and the boys were great as always. Can't wait for the next one!
I thought that Richie and Eddie were supposed to have been wiped out by an SAS squad at the end of the last episode. So where does that place the movie?
