I always find it funny how they won't play Bugs Bunny cartoons on TV anymore because they are "too violent and not PC" then they turn around and play shows like "Family Guy", "American Dad", almost anything on "Adult Swim" which are far more violent and un-PC. Kind of hypocritical hmmm?
it is very interesting to read all these things about the old Warner Bros cartoons. I grew up watching these cartoons all the time on Saturday morning. :) I remember reading somewhere years ago (probably after Mel Blanc died) that they called him "the man of a thousand voices" -and he really WAS. it took me years to realize that he did most of those voices all by himself. I haven't watched these cartoons in years. so I didn't even know that they edited out all the violence, until I found this message board. I never saw this Space Jam movie either. but it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything. :(
I was born and raised on the old cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Popeye, GI Joe, Tom & Jerry, etc. And I went on to study to be a nun. I'm a teacher now in a peaceful Quaker school.
I think cartoons of today SUCK!! They are just as violent but in some sanitized code that pretends to be responsible and the sexual innuendo is outrageous!!! Our kids are being way more perverted now than we ever were by the media. Now kids have anime, Youtube, MTV, BET, the internet, reality shows, unlimited cable, Britney Spears & Lindsey Lohan. I Wish my students would just watch Bugs Bunny!
th...Th..That's all folks!
I have found a related page! Visit loadingvault.com
I find it very useful!
By far one of the best cartoon shows of all time. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. I'm so glad I have the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons on dvd totally unedited.
the ones with cecil the tortoise were the best!! he was the only one to get over on bugs every time he was in the cartoon. will somebody please bring back the oldies !! i'm sick of the same crap on boomerang and the cartoon channel.
Kathleen Helppie-Shipley. May she rot in the BAD place for her alterations.
I grew up on these cartoons and miss them like a long, lost friend. I don't understand how anyone could be silly enough to think that cartoon violence would cause real life violence. Most new shows for kids are either bland, vanilla and P.C. and/or just mindless advertisements to sell toys, t-shirts and bookbags (I won't mention any Dora or SpongeBob names).
wow lol
It is the FCC censors which are the problem with censorship. Why can't we get rid of the FCC?
Hi

G'night
Do you even know why the networks censored the violence out of Looney Tunes cartoons? To prevent kids imitating the stuff shown. So think about it. If the networks kept the violence intact, all of you would be DEAD by now!
This show jumped when the spineless wonders at the network cut out all the violence. Good grief, that plays into so many of the jokes. It's like cutting the music out of "Sound of Music".
Remember the original, uncut classic 1959 Merrie Melodies Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoon called "People Are Bunny?"That was a classic cartoon, and I do NOT know WHY they censored this-PARTICULARLY at the end-Censored version:When Bugs asys,"Eh,they always shoot Blanks on TV"Then it's fade to black. But wait,That's NOT all,Folks.Because at the end of the original, uncut version,When Bugs says"Eh,they always shoot Blanks on TV"Daffy, who has just been shot, and whose beak is full of holes, spits out the blanks and says "Blanks he says.Have a handful of blanks",he then throws up his hands, and Bugs looks puzzled.Fade to black.Cue peppy 1950's "Merrie Melodies"theme music. They do NOT make 'em like this anymore. And I am in complete agreement that when the late, great,Mel Blanc died,Bugs Bunny(his favorite character by the way),Daffy Duck,Porky Pig,Yosemite Sam,Pepe Le Pew,Foghorn Leghorn,Dog,Henry Hawk,Wile E.Coyote,Marvin the Martian,Tweety and Sylvester, and the countless other Warner Bros.characters,(except Elmer Fudd)died with him.Oh,sure, the characters are still around voiced by other people, but they definitely are NOT the same. And,as is enscribed on the late, great Mel Blanc's tombstone,"That's All,Folks."
I think both ABC & CBS had a good thing
going when for at least 1 week, both The
Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show & The Bugs
Bunny/Looney Tunes Comedy Hour were on
both networks running simultaniously. I
wouldn't quite have called 1984 the end
of the great depression. 1985 was really
the year that everything changed as of
the start of the Fall season, as ABC &
CBS had 2 non-competitive timeslots at
8:00am, and 10:00am, so that Bugs Bunny
wouldn't be going head to head against
well...himself, Doc. But alas, Warner
Bros. sold its entire cartoon library
to ABC. It's fun to think about that.
We could've watched BB/LT Comedy Hour,
The Smurfs & The BB/RR Show back to
back in a "Rabbit Sandwich", had both
Bugs Bunny Shows remained on television
from September 7'th on in 1985/1986. It
does hurt that parents thought of these
shows as being too violent by this time,
but it was still a great time to be able
to wake up to a bright Saturday morning.
