I'll agree that the show jumped when Kevin Smith guested (even though he's the only reason I checked the show out to begin with). I'm only on season 6 (netflix) so i haven't seen them all yet.

I loved the first few seasons and started to not like it as much when Emma started blowing Jay and being a bitch. I really cared about the characters - the show has brought me, a grown man, to tears at times in the first 4 seasons. The early episodes are well written and acted. The characters were realistic - normal kids, facing normal problems, both serious and stupid. I liked how it showed both sides to things (like Marco dealing with being gay and his friends dealing with having a gay friend as well, for just one example).


The cast all turned out to be good looking and it turned into just another show, but it was great for awhile. I have yet to see JT die and am not looking forward to that. I couldn't care less so far about the new characters. If Paige gets aids I'm gonna be pissed (she's my favorite).

Still better than most shows, but it did jump, right around the time Kevin was there.

Remember when Paige getting raped was a 2 episode arc with another episode about only a few episodes after?
Now her possibly getting AIDS is just a B plot. This is getting so sad.
The new season is absolutely goddamn ridiculous. ALL of the original characters have now graduated or died and I just think it's getting really stupid and I really could give a **** less about the new characters and I don't even know half their names.

One of the real tragedies of the show is the way they totally ignored the character of Toby. I think a lot of people would have been able to identify with Toby. He was a nerdy, unlucky with girls, but had a popular and sexually active best friend (J.T.), which probably made him feel even more uncomfortable. Toby represented a "normal" character, the type which is now totally absent from the show, replaced by unrealistic plastic, perfect teen models (Darcy, Peter, etc.).

It can hardly even be called "Degrassi" anymore. Everyone's graduated and out of Degrassi. I used to love the show, but now it's just getting stupid and pathetic.

I agree with everyone who said it jumped after the new characters were introduced. It was just an excuse for the producers to keep it going after Toby and the rest graduated.
I miss Rick and JT.

This show has been pretty great within the past...7 years? The older plots were really great. Some of the older elements of the show have died off, and so many plots have been recycled throughout the series. (i.e. Paige's Rape, then Darcy's Rape, as well as Pregnancies, Drug use, death, cancer which ends in remission, sex, sex, sex, sex, girl fights). Those are the only 2 reasons why I think "Degrassi: TNG" JTS.

This show has completely jumped the shark. I was a huge follower from day one. And as soon as they hit season 6 that was the end. The introduction of the new characters was so pointless they should have never carried it on after the graduation. Known of the characters have any of the personality of the old ones, which just makes them uninteresting, and not worth caring about. The show is running out of plots quickly and their just repeating what the older characters have done, which is silly and a waste of money, because they'll just end up losing a lot of their viewers.

Hooray! It's starting to jump back! I guess they got the memo and toned down the drama.
My favorite character is Anya. I LOVE how she gave Holly, sorry, Holly J, the slip in the fasting episode. She got what she deserved big time and it was enormously vindicating to watch.

Am I the only one who HATED what they did to Toby's character? I think he had the potential to be one of the best characters of the show but the overdorkness of him was nauseating. Almost failing PE because he couldn't get DDR? I wanted to puke.

Jumped shark when the writers stopped giving a crap about the characters. Half the things the characters do make sense, and it's all to create so called "drama". Then the characters forget about it by the next episode. Lame.

How long did it take Liberty to get over JT's death... Like two, MAYBE three episodes. I liked how Paige's rape issues kept on going through out the season, but now everything is rushed.

Wow . I dont understand where everybody's coming from . Degrassi is my favorite show ever . Ive seen every episode and every new episode i watch keeps me on the edge of my couch . So go somewhere degrassi haterssss (: haha

The older episodes were great in my opinion. I must admit though that some elements of the series have died a little bit since the characters aged into their 20's, still portraying teenagers. I still find the show appealing and interesting to watch. It's one of the few teen dramas I can stand to watch. The moments when the show JTSed for me were when JT died, that was totally unnecessary.
A lot of the disappearing characters (i.e. Hazel, Kendra, Terri, Alex).
Lakehurst...Major Conflicts between 2 schools, even a murder...Then the schools join together?
Darcy...After her rape when she started having psychological issues and made the false claim of being Molested by snake, she's suddenly back to normal within the next few episodes?

Jumped with season six... sucky, 90210 intro coupled with a distinct lack of interest and chemistry on the part of a number of the actors... seasons 1-5 were great... pity...

Congratulations, Degrassi! You're the only show on television to feature the most UNATTRACTIVE teen cast in T.V. history! Degrassi:TNG (as well as Old School Degassi) is full of fuglies, especially Emma. She's so ugly, She's 19 but she looks like she's 39 not to mention she looks like a walking pool stick with blonde hair! ugh! she's so annoying/useless and her voice is so irritating. Clear your throat first then deliver your lines, PLEASE!!!! And if I see her featured in one more made for T.V. movie, I'm going to walk over to my television, pick it up and proceed to throw it down 4 flights of stairs. AAAGGGHHHH!!!
