I kinda have to disagree with you mimi...you make it sound they were a bunch of wimps and this wasn't the reason this show was so successful, I mean they had some negative traits like any close friends in real life, and it was amazing to see a six-some group with different dynamics (though you're right about Ross's weakness and Chandler's behaviour)..and you're right they were paid equally

oh!! and one more thing, all the characters were paid equally. it's not like jennifer got paid more. all the characters are deliberately created with specific traits and if you believe that they are like that in reality then that's just a credit to their acting.

if you cite ross's weakness and chandler's weak but funny - ness as the negative points of the show...then i'm sorry to say u just missed the entire point of the series. the characters were deliberately created to be that way and their characteristics were the focal points of jokes throughout the show!!

I will admit the show was funny, but most of the characters were annoying. Like Ross was one of the weakest men ever - how many times did he get married and divorced...he was just a big baby. I couldn't believe any women would go for him. Probably the best episode was when he got his teeth whitened - had he done more stuff like that, he would've been a lot more likeable.

My favorite characters were Joey and Phoebe because it was their general cluelessness that was so cute.

Least favorite characters were Rachel, Monica and Chandler. Chandler was nearly as bad as Ross only funny and that helped him. Rachel was a snob, you could tell she was one of the highest paid on the show and she flaunted it. Monica's character was anal retentive and it just made her annoying more then anything else.

They had jobs but they sure found a lot of time to meet on the couch at the Central Perk. It wasn't realistic.

Overall the show was OK but it could've been better. It was not as funny as some say.

actually im stunned by the comments too, although these i have alot of time on my hand but the dumb comments in here makes you cringe.

at one point some insecured delusional person actually said that people who liked friends are dumber than the people who liked seinfeld..if you like seinfeld more thats fine but dont make pathetic excuses for liking that show or try to convince people that you're "smart" believe me smart people dont make comments like that.

besides friends and seinfeld are completely different-the one similar thing is the young people living in NYC-but everything else was different from story-lines to the characters to the hall formula of the show, if you have at least a double-digit IQ you'll realize how different are those two.

"shyone" the gist is there were no minorities in the main role i think..which seems a problem that is common for every sitcom in the 80's-90's

LOL reading through the comments I've found an interesting one.

It turns out someone thinks that friends fans cannot type/spell sophisticated words, you see...no one actually cares how well you type on the internet (insecured people are an exception) so you have to try to use your brain next time you create some illusion.

Also I noticed one of the reasons the show-supposedly-jumped the shark is that it's too white, frankly I don't get it, there were alot of diverse extras and several returning characters..just wondering

The 1st & 2nd seasons were a work of genius, absolutely amazing...the rest are ok but it's not like the earliest twoo

I genuinely believe that this series is a classic.

And that is despite my personal opinion, this series has been on almost every list of "best T.V shows of all time" the fandom over the internet is strong as ever. Why even for weeks now, the mere rumour of a "friends movie" swept the whole net, and the series is in the top 15 or 20 in syndication after 4 years of it's finale.

the jokes may not be sophisticated, the scripts sometimes stunk. but this show is sooo much fun just like cheers but better

Show just stunk. Silly clicky stupid people in dumb situations, loved by those that live there lives as such. Should've been devoured by the shark on day one

If you look back to June 20th, you will see a post in which I wrote about how filled up I was by a picture of Lisa Kudrow getting a smooch from her sister. Now that you know about my appreciation for female bonding, I would like to tell you about a time in which Lisa expressed this type of emotion as her character of Pheobe. If you remember back to the first season, right when Rachal was ready to tell Ross how she felt about him, she saw him kissing his new girlfriend Julie. She was devestated! By the second season, we see Rachal expereince the double whammy of seeing her best friend Monica go shopping with Julie. After a brief period of trying to deny the situation, Monica explained to Rachal that even though she wanted to see her hook up with her brother as much as anyone, things do not always work out the way that we planned them. She then went on to explain how just because she is now Julie's friend, dose not mean that she is any less Rachal's friend then she ever was. Rachal was so touched by Monica's words that she put both arms around her and gave her the hug of a lifetime! Pheobe who had been watching and listening the whole time saw how cozy they looked together and said, "I know that none of this really concerns me but, may I get in on it"? Both ladies were happy to each lift an arm so that Pheobe could share in the hug. Seeing these three hot babes show such respect and affection for one another really worked wonders for my heart!
