I honestly didn't mind Hector when it was just him. Casey takes the dubious title of Scrappy Doo of the series, but there were still some stories that remained decent with her around. The new Gaby, though, was the harbinger of the end. Four Days of the Cockatoo was weak and Attack of the Slime Monster was just unacceptable -- not even a real mystery there. Not even the increasing hotness of Tram-anh Tran could save the series at that point.
...All the same, fantastic series that will be missed. (And should hurry up and come out on DVD.)

This is addressing the person who made a comment about the New Ghost Writer Mysteries in 1997. Are you really Spike Lee? I remember you appeared on one of the episodes. And Sheldon Turnipseed was in Mo’ Better Blues.
Can some tell where to get the ghost writer dvd from ? i loved that show when i was little girl ,but now im 21 thinking about how i never wanted to miss an day of watching it .if you know any thing please let me know!!
I just googled out of impulse 'Ghost Writer' and this site came up and I was touched to see all the 'We loved Rob' comments here.
To all that wanted to know, as someone close to Todd Alexander, he was taken off the show because of measurements from fan reaction, etc and the network noticed he wasn't getting as strong a feedback in comparison to other characters (the age groups thought of him as 'that other jewish kid', etc and didn't think his character had developed enough to become a fan favorite aka. wasted investment for the program) so they cut him.
He still loved and watched the show though, he takes pride in it. Even though it's somewhat forgotten, it's monumental to many kids and he likes to say he was a part of that
Many Regards

I almost forgot about this show. I thought it was the best show on PBS because it really taught children how to solve complex mysteries and made them right up suspects, clues, and anything else. And then you had to watch it to see what happened next it really allowed children to unlike thier troubleshooting skills that you would use if you were a Police Detective or a sciencetist.
I can't saftely say if it every JTS for me, but I always wondered what came of it after all these years.
And the storylines were good. I always thought the drama added to the mysteries.

The first two seasons of Ghostwriter were the best! At the beginning of the third season, it jumped the shark because the episodes weren't as interesting and good as the first two seasons. It also jumped at this time because they replaced Mayteana Morales with Melissa Gonzalez.
The show was great theatre for me as a kid. My favorite episode, was the one where the group got together to make that music ***** to their song "you gotta believe". That, and degrassi (the 1980's version), were the best pbs shows ever! I have both series on dvd, I'm so happy to have a part of my childhood memories again.
I recently got ahold of all the Ghostwriter episodes, and I've concluded that this show jumped the shark once Jamal went to London...that episode sucked, then Gaby changed and there was no turning back...
Does anyone remember The New Ghostwriter Mysteries? It came on in late 1997. I guess Canada couldn't cut it.
I have been reading all of these posts and I'm wondering about the Gaby character. I thought they replaced the younger Gaby with the with older Gaby. If I'm wrong please tell me plus if its still on tell what channel and time.
I loved this show, but the constant change in characters and all of the new people and all of the old people really confused me. It was a great concept for kids though and they should bring it back in modern form and not make the same mistakes that they did with the version from the 90's.
I loved this show, and it never jumped the shark, it was one of the best shows for kids. It was entertaining and educational, something that is rare these days. I love the concept of the show and how it allowed viewers to get involve. Each week I looked foward to this show all of the characters were great, my favorite characters where Lenny, Jamal and Gabby.
Yes, I agree with many others that the show started to jump shark after Rob (Todd Alexander) left midway 2nd season. Things weren't so bad at first but once they started bringing in younger characters and recruiting new members right and left, it bleached out so much of the thrill of the secret of Ghostwriter. It's a shame because Rob was such a good character. Y'know some of the Ghostwriter books mentioned he had a deaf older brother named Jason who was away at a special school. I always wished Jason could have been on the show just once to teach the kids about hearing impaired people.
While the ongoing adventures broadened to new horizons (e.g. Jamal's trip to England, Lenni's music *****) I feel the stories overall lacked the heart and depth in comparison to some of the earlier episodes. For example, the story about the cockatoo wasn't half as serious as Gaby's illness in "Over a Barrel". "Who is Max Mouse" had a clever but easily outdated idea because of the cruder version of the internet. The drug story with Alex was strong and provocative but I prefer the way Ghostwriter handled violence in "Building Bridges". And who can forget the famous tunnel scene from "To the Light"?
At least we got 18 stories out of this great show. Now to get it on DVD...
