Loved the first few seasons. I remember an episode where a guy was good at a ***** game and if anyone beat him, he'd kill em. There was another one where a guy came to Los angeles and started shooting everything up with a machine gun. Dryer's tough guy attitude and kramer's cuteness worked for me.
In the end i simply got bored with it after a few season as it eventually became an actionless cop drama. Dryer's hair receded & Kramer's hair looked shite after a while too. Flat and long didn't work for me.

My favorite show until McCall became a lounge singer virtually every other show. How many times can you go undercover as a singer? She could'nt sing or dance. Really screwed it up for me, oh and Nia, you are wrong babe.

ive been watching this show alot lately as it comes on just before i go to work. this show is good/bad in equal measure. the 2 parter "rape and revenge" is probably the best and at the same time worst episode of this show's "dee dee mcall" era as it realistically shows mcall trying to deal with her rape and hunter trying to comfort her, but at the same time its incredibly idiotic as is shown when hunter goes to the mythical latin american country of "caraguay" and walks into an expat bar and asks "does anyone speak american?" and then there was mccall's confrontation with her rapist's father where she ends up blaming the whole country when he implies he doesnt care if his son raped her or not, then there was the kid who ended up hanging around hunter throught the episode and somehow knew where everything was and basically cheuffeured hunter around wherever he needed to go, i guess since kid sidekicks where all the rage at the time (ie: indiana jones & the temple of doom / rambo 3)the writers decided to stick hunter with one, and what was with hunter having endless amounts of cash in that episode?

the show went downhill after mccall got married and left, hunter's first woman partner after mccall was human *********, novak was a big improvement over her but still no mccall level of chemistry with hunter. the shows seemed to get more serious and less comedic after mccall left, which in some cases was a good thing (ie: the episode with the aging, senile actress who was being conned), and sometimes it wasent (a lot of episodes i cant remember)


anyways hunter, while being a un iformly decent show through its 8 year run, never lived up to what it desperately wanted to be, which was magnum p.i. in L.A.

The person who calls themselves JJ needs to go jump off a bridge! How could anyone say such an awful thing about Stepfanie?! She is a lovely talented actress who should get nothing but good remarks. Get your hearing checked JJ!

I remember one episode where "Tooz," the late John Matuszak, played some wired whacko. He dwarfed Fred Dryer in size, and in the final fight scene was throwing Hunter all over the place. Of course, Hunter prevails. It was a bizarre episode, of which there seemed to be many.

Dee Dee was hotter when she was silent; that voice was hard to tolerate.

This was another one of those 80s shows that didn't hold up well over time.

Last week on vacation I caught some really early "Hunter" episodes on TV Land, which prompted me to come here to JTS after a long absence. I first came across "Hunter" in the mid 1980s and wasn't impressed. If anything it seemed like a bad imitation of "Miami Vice" (but to judge by those early episodes, didn't start that way)--this was before MV became a bad imitation of itself. But somehow I kept watching and the story and the characters really came into their own. The show shed all efforts at imitation and turned into one of the best cop shows ever. To the person who commented about "Sledge Hammer played straight", SH came along a little later and yes, it was parodying the more extreme aspects of shows like "Hunter"--but those aspects became less of a focus as "Hunter" continued.

Hunter jumped the shark when Dee Dee married Josh Lewis from "Guiding Light". It was around that time, Fred Dryer became Executive Producer of Hunter. Coincidence?

Hunter, my all time favorite cop show, jumped the shark in season five when new producers were brought in who didn't understand the appeal of the show. How anyone could think that it was a good idea to have Hunter and McCall work separately and then come together at the end is a mystery to me! The most compelling reason to watch was the chemistry between Hunter and McCall, and it's a little tough to generate that when you're by yourself.

Since HUNTER is now being shown on TV Land, my favorite station, I will make a few comments. One, FRED DRYER WAS A FOOTBALL PLAYER, NOT AN ACTOR. Two, I ALSO SAW THE RESEMBLANCE OF HUNTER TO SLEDGE HAMMER! AND THOUGHT SLEDGE WAS THE BETTER SHOW BY FAR. And three, I THINK TV LAND IS A LITTLE CONFUSED AT THIS TIME AS TO WHAT THEY ARE CONSIDERING TO BE CLASSIC TV. HUNTER? MACGYVER? HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN? HUH? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

This show jumped the shark, when Fred Dryer's hair started to look like the McDonalds M logo!

It didn't really jump, more like ran to the very edge but somehow managed to stop just in time avoid hurling down into the abyss. However, Rick Hunter's increase in sensitivity wasn't that welcome. Õ was disappointed when he gave up his trademark "Works for me."

JTS when Stefanie Kramer, DeeDee, left the show! I could not stand to watch with his other partners (Novak/Molinski). The show just didn't work without Kramer!

I agree with an earlier poster. When DeeDee left, the whole feeling of the show changed. Hunter didn't joke around with two replacements if I remember correctly. But what I've never figured out is why, in the Molenski era, did they make Hunter a uniformed cop again?!("Again" as in meaning he most likely started out as a uniformed officer, but we just never saw that early into his career.) Was he demoted briefly or something? As for Hunter 2003,it was alright, but definitely lacking some spark (Even the theme song wasn't rockin' in ANY sort of way! Grrr...)
