Hah-hah-giggle. The last commenter (Guest)above is hilarious!pecially the part about Ebsen packing A5-35, and geritol. hah-hah.
I agree with "me" 200% I'm tired of reality shows so much that I've actually improved my bad t.v. habit, I don't watch much of it anymore. I loved Matt Houston and wish they'd make if it's even a one time miniseries movie with whatever original cast is still alive especially Lee Horsley and Pam Hensley. I'd have loved to see them two become a love item. I stopped watching it after she became scarce.
This show was never the same for me once it became obvious they were trying to replace the character of C.J. Parsons. I mean, they spend two seasons setting up the dynamic between Matt and C.J. - mutual respect, admiration, and growing romantic love - only to suddenly start replacing her on a week-to-week basis with "special guest stars" like Deborah Farentino and Rebecca Holden (who screwed up Knight Rider, as well, when she replaced Bonnie for a season). Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Don't get us to invest in a character and then start playing "musical best friend," you idiots!
1st of all the vietnam show was to rescue Uncle Buddy Houston's son Will
Houston from a prison camp, and the character was mentioned in several episodes. 2nd it is Tom Selleck who was
the wannabe! Lee Horsley never tried to commit suicide. and the change of cast in season 2 was do to contracts
being up and not renewed. the computer came along with the advent of the real
computer
Funny that I just found this site. I'm in the process of converting all my Matt Houston tapes to DVD (who knew tapes would still work after 20+ years??).

I don't know that I feel it 'jumped the shark' by definition but I do remember hearing that the 3rd season went downhill because Pamela Hensley (CJ) had started dating executive producer E. Duke Vincent (whom she is still married to) and in the 80's, where actresses were treated horribly to being with, that was a huge no-no and to punish her of sorts, they cut her part back a lot and brought Uncle Roy in to basically replace her.

The episode where CJ told Houston she loved him wasn't done as cheesy as some have made it sound. I think if there had been a 4th season, they might have pursued that relationship a bit more, especially after his fiance (Kerrie Keane who showed up out of nowhere) left him when she couldn't handle being kidnapped and/or shot at hehe. It was fun watching the 'hero' get stalked, shot at, shot, kidnapped, etc.

I completely agree with the person who posted 'what's wrong with fun tv?'. I don't care to watch 'reality' stuff either - if I want backstabbing I'll go to the office. TV used to be about fun, escape reality and relax. I miss 80's TV!!!!
Magnum P.I. was a horrible show. Knight Rider sucked also. Matt Houston had humor, and action and it was a great show.
This was a gret show! I loved Lee Horsley. I wish that it would be released on DVD.
This was the best show of all time. Why on earth isn't it still running to this day? Lee Horsley's character would have taken on the "Uncle Roy" role by now, and his and CJ's son and daughter would solve the crimes. Murray would be the lovable mensch who would narrate it all from his nursing home. It could work!
I am dating a gorgeous woman who used to love this show when she was a kid, so I wanted to check out the site.
Never Jumped, but boy there are some series which should have (and did) never make it out of the 80's alive. Could you imagine trying to pitch the idea today . . . "There's this Texas billionaire who drives a Dusenberg who fights crime . . . "? I still get a laugh when I'm on an elevator somewhere and pull out my cell phone and pretend to make a call and start off by saying in a thick Texas accent "CJ . . . " You'd be surprised how many people remember. Someone mentioned the last show being where Matt is framed for murder and walks off into the sunset after CJ confesses her love for him. Hopefully that was the last episode.
Last of the great 'staches!
Well I loved it, whatever happened to willing suspension of disbelief? to the idea that this is supposed to be entertainment or do people prefer the brand of 'real' tv that we get now where film crews follow people around or worse stick them in goldfish bowls witha prize that's the dream of a lifetime to make them do almost anything, and in the process somehow 'entertain' us. Give me an hour of unreality any day of the week. I want to believe that millionaire's are altruistic enough to run araound as detectives attempting to make the world a better place and solve crimes just because they're good at it. I like having bad guys with no redeeming features that I can hate and seek their untimely demise, or inevitable incarceration. I enjoy seeing my hero stalked by insane girlfriends and villains who'll never forgive him for the death/ imprisonment of themselves/brother/ son/ father and will do anything to take the hero down in an elaborate, unbelievable and ultimately escapable from way, instead of just shooting them. In my book all entertainment should be Matt Houston style, a little bit of humour, danger and good acting, mixed together with a healthy dose of plot that doesn't strain the synapses and isn't so close to real life that it prevents me from escaping from how bad the real world can be ( I get enough ofthat on the news.
Anyway I loved it:-p. I loved Lee Horsley:-D and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to go and get bitten by a shark;)
I remember this show premiered the same day and time as "Knight Rider" did (Sunday, 8:00 if I remember correctly) I decided with my 12 year-old mind to watch Knight Rider. The next day, this kid I walked to school with said that he watched Matt Houston. All he could say was that his car had a big set of bull horns on it. I proceeded to tell him about K.I.T.T. and all the wonderful things it could do. He just kinda grimaced with the realization that he might have made one of the biggest social faux pas that could be made for a junior high school student growing up in the early eighties. For me, that's exactly what Matt Houston was...one giant faux pas.
When Matt and his assistant CJ began having feelings for each other. I don't believe they ever consummated their relationship. However, I seem to recall toward the end of what was perhaps the final season, Matt was accused of murder and was on the lam, ala The Fugitive. A tearful CJ was on the phone with him saying "I love you" or something. That's when I thought, the show is over.
