I disagree with those who say Nip/Tuck was either always ridiculous or not ever ridiculous, now or then...
NT completely jumped the shark in series 5. In earlier series, it had its moments of sillyness, or things sometimes felt stretched a little too far, but...
Series 5. It just reeks of lazy bad writing. You get the impression that the writers used to care about the characters, and give them somewhat believeable storylines. But now it just all reeks. It feels like the writers put down the first thing that comes into their heads. The whole 'reality tv' thing was just a stupid waste of time. What does it come down to, other than shooting the same old storylines, but written badly and in microcosm, and with hand-held shaky cameras? Stupid stupid stupid. What happened to days of it being about the patients, about their interesting cases? About the relation of the doctors to the patients (beyond what was in their pants)?
I was pretty shocked NT managed to become so hideously bad in series 5. Really let down...

The pilot episode alone contained a man showing on the woman he just had sex with what parts of her body he'd perform cosmetic surgery on, and a teenage boy intentionally wanting to be circumcised because his classmates are teasing him for not having one. That alone screams "outrageousness for the sake of outrageousness."
Should have ended after Season 4; practice has been sold -- show wrapped itself up, who needs Hollywood?
Season 4. Everything prior to that was golden, albeit a little far fetched at times. But starting from the first episode of season 4, this show just has not been the same...it's become almost unwatchable.
The whole unbelievably putrid conclusion to the carver storyline was the true JTS moment. Let's spend an entire season based around a "who is the carver" storyline and then make the killer the most painfully obvious one on the entire show. This is a show that typically has more twists than a pretzel and they manage to screw up the biggest storyline they ever had. Now the show's just one big stupid man-ass soap opera going through the motions.
It's provocative, racy, and about how flawed we all are as humans. They're just flawed in major ways. I love the character development of Christian. Sean? I can take him or leave him. But the Julia thing is intriguing, and Liz is fabulous.
Nip/Tuck is one of those shows that jumps tha tshark a little more every episode. Some examples:
...the Carver has no penis, Julia does a midget, Rosie O'Donnell, Christian does Rosie, the nanny gets mowed over by the bus, LA, Colleen turns the agent into a teddy bear, Julia is poisioned and gets amnesia, the alien conspiracy, Christian does the paraplegic, and so on...

What the hell was up with that Alien conspiracy storyline in season 5? I didn't come to watch Nip/Tuck for stupid paranoid X-files crap. Totally jumped the shark with that, even if it was minor.
Wow, I take back what I said yesterday... Seasons 1-3 were excellent... Season 4... OMG... Did the writer change? "Stevedore" has severe to epidemic acne on his back, neck and groin area. Who thought that Rosie O is a good idea? "Jen" is a buffoon who likes to take her clothes off at partys then point at her genitals.I can't stand Michelle and the whole subplot... and the kidney thefts... and Dr. Troy falling in love with Michelle like that? No way! "Dan" is suffering from explosive diaherra and bouts with mouth fungus. And Dr. Mac cheating all the time???? What's going on? Peace Out Freaks!!!
I will say this about N/T this season, it did suffer quite a bit in quality but I still love this show and am proud to go against the grain on this point. It obviously never occurred to many that this show like others was a victim of rushed writing due to an impending writer's strike. Also to me it is obvious the show is lampooning itself in season 5. The show has always been OUTRAGEOUS so how can it JTS? The people who vehemently label it as trash I would bet can't miss an episode of Grey's (the L.A. Law of medical shows) or the drug-addicted House. If I wanted to watch unbelievable shows that took themselves too seriously filled with "iconic" characters I am supposed to care about way too much i probably would not like N/T. Fortunately they know they're over the top. P.S. I loved the agent-stuffing scene... very Kathy bates a la Misery.
The first two seasons were amazing. The third season was good. The fourth was "so-so" and the fifth was just awful. The show jumped the shark during season 3 when it went from an intelligent character drama (with occassional outlandish things happening) to a bizarre soap opera / comedy.
Besides, nothing from season 4 on has been original, but rather storylines stolen from other movies and soap operas.
Also, the whole Sean/Julia/Christian love triangle was interesting in the begining, but after 2 seasons it wore thin. By now Julia must be getting dizzy from her never-ending game of "musical lovers"....first she loves Sean, then Christian, then Sean, then Christian again, then the Carver, then back to Sean, then she's in love with the dwarf, then she's a lesbian, then back to Christian, then she's a lesbian again, now she has amnesia and thinks she is in love with Sean again.....at this point I don't give a damn who she ends up with.

I have to admit, this show is a guilty pleasure. I especially loved the episode where Dr. Troy banged all the women who were friends and were impressed with his huge schlong. It was interesting seeing all these actresses who were formerly 80's nighttime soap opera stars. However, speaking of plastic surgery, Joan Van Arc looks like a clown.

When we watched the episode where they talked about harvesting wilbur's organs,
we turned it off and have not watched it since!always thought it was weird but entertaining up till that point

I think it jumped the shark with Hearts and Scalpels. That totally deviated away the main plot that has been all along. Moving to L.A. was dumb in itself and then to have Sean become an actor was pretty stupid and not interesting at all. I don't think this season had very many funny moments, well the funniest of all time was when Sean's g/f from Hearts and Scalpels sh*t in the hot tub (I still laugh about that one) but seriously this season was one big joke, not in a good way. The Eden characater was useless. No one could ever be that conniving... ever! Especially not an 18 year beautiful girl such as herself- totally unrealistic. But then again, the show is anythng but real so in the end yes you just have to take it for what it's worth. I hope they eventually go back to Miami, and I hope to see more of Kimber next season.
