i newbie plz how us the baton "add me"?
You know, for a show to jump the shark implies that it was good to begin with. This show never was. Why this extremely unfunny piece of garbage was ever allowed on the air to begin with is something I'll never understand. I hate Roseanne, never mind the fact that the other characters were all unlikable too. OK, except for Dan, he was likable and sympathetic at first. But then he eventually became unlikable as well. The whole bunch of them were so hateful and dysfunctional it was repulsive. The unfunniest show ever. Roseanne Barr is an egomaniacal bitch. I hope she's never allowed on tv ever again.
Jumped with Darlene getting older. She was the only kid I could stand. Becky was whiny and DJ was annoying. David (I think that was his name) was also annoying. It went from being a decent comedy to then being an attempt at a drama. I still remember previews of Dan throwing a coffee table up, Darlene saying she was pregnant, Dan having a heart attack, and Jackie gettin shot. (Okay so I made the last one up) You get the idea.
I just saw a post lottery episode where Roseann gets all Jackie Chan when they are on a train with an Indian diplomat that is hijacked. She overpowers the men with hot rollers and a tampon to the eye. Ridiculous.
Becky I left the show due to this thing called crappy old school. I kind of liked Sarah Chalke better; she was a better actress than Alicia Goranson.
I hear a lot of you ragging on Roseanne(the real one) for ruining the show. And fair enough, maybe she did in the later seasons. But without her it wouldn't even have EXISTED to be as good as it was before it went down hill. I also don't see the major bitchiness of roseanne in the later part of the series. I'm not really going to argue anyone on this because I haven't seen the early series in a while, but I always saw her as a caring person under all the sarcasm.

And as far as the last season goes, it really made me depressed more than any thing. From the point that Dan had his heart attack, I probably cried more than I laughed at the show(though, I cry easily) There were moments, though. Namely the last two episodes(minus the, "It was all a dream" reveal, if only for the feel good aspects of it, and the episode Darlene's baby was born. As ridiculous as the, "everyone's pregnant now" thing was, I really found it a powerful episode. I balled like a baby when they played, "Blackbird" and showed the baby. D: I was also pretty sad that it was revealed that Becky and Darlene had actually ended up with the opposite spouse. But that just be the little David/Darlene fangirl inside me acting up.

I still think the last season was a mess, but I can't say I didn't love it at least a little bit until then. Your all free to disagree, but I'll love this show forever despite it's flaws.
It's interesting to me how confusing it is for people when there is a female in this kind of role...when it's a man, it's funny, right? I'm not a feminazi, but Roseanne didn't pull any punches--still doesn't. But again, if she was a man, she would have "convictions". As a woman, she's a bitch. Ridiculous. Also, Cheese, is it? Melissa Gilbert was never in the show. That was Sara Gilbert. Her sister, Melissa, starred as Laura Ingalls, on Little House on the Prairie.
The first half of the series is better then the 2nd half. Roseanne started out as this great character, she was sarcastic and really funny and loved her family fiercly. Then she just became a bitch.

And what did they do to Jackie?? She went from being amusingly quirky and neurotic to the Barney Fife caricature. It was annoying.

There were a few exceptions but for the most part the final season was complete garbage, a total betrayal of everything the Conner's were. I know she tried to explain it all away in the final episode, that most of that stuff didn't really happen, that it was just her escape into fantasy after Dan's death but come on!

That being said - I was SO sad when they revealed that Dan had died! I loved Dan Conner.
I love this show! i still watch it every chance I get! When they opened the "Lunchbox" was the best time to watch. The show were Rosey and Jackie take fish and break into the rival restaurant to plant the stinky fish and Rosey gets stuck in the vent over the stove! I laughed so hard I cried. They though a waffle bar would bring in more customers!! hahahahaha Long live Roseanne!!!!!!!!
Loved Roseanne until "Lottery Time." Then it sucked for obvious reasons.
does anyone rember the episode where roseannes mom got the dui?the best one ever!still funny 2day
Roseanne hitting the lottery was the point where it jumped the shark. Lower and middle class people do not catch these kind of breaks. It just doesn't happen. We're destined to lives our crappy lives in the gutter. The end.
Roseanne was the poster child for American white trash and she alone was responsible for the spike in Spam and Vienna Sausage sales!
Some posters say that Dan having an affair and leaving his family was a shark jump, but I disagree. Sometimes people stay in disfunctional situations for a long time out of a sense of duty or fear of the unknown. Then a life changing event happens, and they realize that life is too short to live in misery. Rosanne was abusive to Dan and the kids were into one disaster after another which put constant stress on him. After they won the lottery, Dan didn't have to worry about supporting his family anymore. He had a heart attack, and a midlife crisis like a lot of men do. Why is it so hard to believe that he would want a second chance with someone kind and understanding( I don't think it's a coincidence that they made her a nurse) instead of a feminazi like Rosanne? I missed the presence of John Goodman, but I thought that was pretty realistic compared to the other situations after the show was hijacked by its out of control star.
Roseanne (both the show and the beast-woman) was always high on the bitchiness scale, but the show made me laugh from time to time... until the bitchiness overpowered the humor. Said overpowering bitchiness was then coupled with large amounts of Drama, and soon the show imploded on itself (either that, or Roseanne ate the show).
