I think that a lot of people forget that Nickelodeon is a kid's channel. They cater to the 12 and under crown. That being said, I enjoyed this show. Nickelodeon was not very good at live-action shows (don't know if it is now) but this one was fun. Just reading these posts brought back some fond childhood memories. One of my favorite episodes was when they had to asnwer a question on a radio station about the color of a giraffe's tongue. Funny at the time.
Pedro, from July 15th, I agree that Nickelodeon was gold in the 80s. But then again, I was moving out of the age bracket by the early 90s.It's too bad MTV and the Disney Channel have turned into teeny-bopper stuff as well.

Kids singing:
Camp Annawanna,
we hold you in our hearts,
and when we think about you,
Budnick:
It makes me wanna fart!
Ug:
It's "I hope we never part!" Now get it right, or pay the price!
Classic.

Hey Dude wasn't always for me.
This show never jumped in my opinion. It's silly, it was meant to be silly and it never got outrageous.
To whomever said ZZ was the cutest one, amen. I adored ZZ.
Deo, to many people, SYS and Hey Dude were old school. Some of us are older and that's fine of course but for some younger that is old school. The thing is if you look at the vile junk on nowadays and consider time goes faster as you get older, the I wouldn't fault one for sayinf SYS was old school. Besides, don't forget Pinwheel.

I used to want Dina soooo bad back in the day that id have to retire to the bathroom for 15 minutes after every show!! The black chick was hot too. I agree that this show rocked. I have season 1 and 2 on dvd and they are still as funny as when i was 11 when they first came out. Donkeylips is amazing. I can just look at him and laugh myself into oblivion
The first two season of Pete and Pete are out on DVD (I have the first), as is the first of Clarissa Explains It All. Are you Afraid of the Dark? has the first four seasons out in Canada, and I think there may be another old school show coming out soon (I can't remember which). Check out www.tvshowsondvd.com
I would have to say that the show never jumped the shark, per say. Yeah, Pinksy replacing Michael wasn't the best idea, but season two still had many excellent episodes. And even Pinksy had his moments.
Now, up until recently, I haven't seen the show in years. But, thanks to a close buddy and a couple of blank DVDs I can enjoy it whenever I wish. One thing that struck me is you know sometimes there's a show that when you watch it as a kid you think it's great, but you watch it when you're older and sucks the big one? I can't say that about Salute Your Shorts, in fact it's funnier to me now than when I was a kid. And the reason is very simple, I've spent the last five years of my life working at a summer camp. And when you've lived the staff life and you watch a show like that, it becomes even funnier. If you know someone whose been a counselor, have 'em watch an episode or two (if you can track it down that is), they'll probably laugh at things you never thought about.
Long live Camp Anawanna

Sing it right or pay the price! We need to bring this back, people. I also had an idea (like the other guest)for a "Nick Classic" where these and other shows can live on ad infinitum. Shows like Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Hey Dude, and other stuff long forgotten such as Welcome Freshmen, Fifteen, and Roundhouse. (Did I just take you waaaaay back with those last two?) My TV used to stay on Nick back in the day! The only show that I can tolerate now (I'm 27)on the "N" is Drake and Josh, and I think that's finished. Forget SpongeBob. Sponge rocked! Bring back Pete and Pete, Clarissa, and Alex Mack! If I can't get my Nick Classic, then put some of these up on Gas or get to work on the DVDs. -And when we think about you,...
screw nickelodeon for taking classics like salute your shorts off the air... all there is now is a bunch of cartoon crap...salute never jumped becaus it was never given enough time to jump! do a reunion already!!!
Years ago, I made a comment here about how ZZ had it going on from day one. Just because I love to be proved right, check out the now older Meghan Berwick at http://www.studioactreel.com/ActorUpdate.html
OK, so she’s no Scarlet Johansson, but come on, for someone who used to star on a low-budget Nick show, not bad.

iF Anything, there were not enough episodes. Budnick and Donkeylips rule. Youre gonna be roasted, toasted, and...burnt to a crisp...but first you gotta catch me.
Wow, this show is pure mindless BS. The acting sucked, the plots didn't make sense and the writing was bad. What was they thinking when they made this show? Nickelodeon didn't have any good shows in the 1990s, just a bunch of mindless gross out humor cartoons, boring game shows (compared to the original Double Dare and Finder's Keepers) and a bunch of carbon copy teen shows. Today's Nickelodeon sucks even more.
Nickelodeon was much better in the 1980s.
Sorry, this show sucks.

I laugh at the people calling Salute Your Shorts an "old school show". You Can't Do That On Television, Mr Wizard and DangerMouse were "old school shows". You might as well call Spongebob Squarepants old school.
That being said, Salute Your Shorts was a very good show and was one of the only good shows Nickelodeon had in the nineties. At least, it started out that way. When Michael left ad was replaced by that Pinski dork, Budnick struck up a romance with the hot brunette chick, and the show started being filmed with that hazy lens over the camera, it turned into a completely different show - one that wasn't any good.

I'm 14 and i think that show is one of the best one nick ever had one. I can even remember watch it along with Are You Afraid of the Dark? Kenan & Kel and All That(the good one with Jack Campbell Fat Cop). They also have nick GAS for all the old game show like Legends of the Hidden Temple (witch was on nick today for some reason)Get The Picture, Figure It Out,GUTS,Double Dare(and the crappy Double Dare 2000)and some times Wild & Crazy Kids and a nother channel some of the cartoons like Rugrats Rocko's Modern Life ren&stempy.
