I loved this show. SCMK never jumped since the fans continue to write stories for it. WHY do they not create a movie? If the powers can bring back Knight Rider??? they definitely need to end this wonderful series right.
I guess it jumped -- when the network cancelled it without giving Kate a chance to recover from cancer.

I believe this show had at least 2 more seasons in it, but for Ms. Jackson's illness. This is one show where the marriage added to the "secret" agent part of the plot. It could have been fun seeing the married spies hide the secret from both the family and the Agency. To me jump the shark means a show that has run out of ideas...so it finds some far fetched plot lines. Scarecrow to me remains one of the few shows where the romantic leads have a really natural progression of their relationship. No stoping and starting and contrived reasons to keep them apart...that to me is "jumping the shark."
---Am I the only one who is amused when in the pilot Dotty tells Amanda she can't wait until Amanda's married again so she doesn't have to keep running accross town?

SMK was a great show and it'll be forever. It is just too bad that it never ended well. Bruce and Kate were great together and they just had this on-screen chemistry so well that glued audience to the show. I wish they would do a movie version of Scarecrow and Mrs King and get in Bruce and Kate. After all, X-files is coming back on big screen with the same mulder and Scully. They can try for SMK. I wish Warner Brothers will do it.
CBS did advertise the near miss kiss as an actual kiss. If you'd watched the original run, the audience was lead to believe from the 'advertised commercial previews' that they would in fact be kissing in the episode. I held my breath the entire episode waiting for it, only to be fooled.
The show didn't jump the shark. While it's true that Amanda did change, due to several facts,(one being that they had several new writers during the end of season two, all people change. It would be unrealistic to keep the characters in a 'special box' for four seasons and expect the audience to actually buy it. As both Bruce and Kate stated on several interviews, fans had expectations regarding the show. It was their job to give the fans what they wanted. The overwhelming majority of people wanted to see the relationship to progress, including the actors.
In one interview, Bruce discussed what the plan was for season five. They discussed having a baby. All great things that I would have loved to have seen but because of unfortunite circumstances, we didn't get the opportunity.
It was a great show and now, a few decades later, it still brings up debate. I think it was a great show that many people loved and will always remember. You can't beat that!

I think Kate's illness was the biggest blow to the show.
There is no SMK without Mrs. King.
I enjoyed it very muchand am hoping for a reunion show and or a "real" DVD release.
I am happy to see so many others feel the same way i do about "Lee and Amanda."
I crushed on him, big time and loved them together.

I only watched this show because it starred Bruce Boxleitner who starred in Tron. I liked it anyway, but he's TRON! I liked in Babylon 5 too, but he's TRON!
The reason why the show never returned from hiatus is because Kate had breast cancer. This is not easy to get over. There is Chemo and radiation therapy. By the time Kate was well enough it was not the right time to bring it back. Kate would have loved to bring the show back but was not able to.
I do understand that things would have changed but then, I think there would have been other mishaps of Amanda's that would have ocured.

Yes it jumped! But the last season started ok. As soon as Kate got sick is towards the end. They sidelined her character and caused the reason that people watched to walk away. It was a change when Amanda was a full spy but they could have handled that differently. The needed to to keep the sexual tension and they had it with the marriage! It really could have caused a whole lot of problems but never was given a chance. It was cut before she was better
I dont think the show was a backlash against feminism - at the beginning it was quite the contrary. Amanda was "only a housewife" who had abilities and knowledge a trained agent couldn't match. But in the end she became some sort of superwomen who managed family and career with perfection. Nobody can manage so much alone...but the show jumped the shark when Amanda praktically gone. She was the heart of the show (and the best actress), not scarecrow and certainly not Francine.
Yes it jumped the shark. The thing I found most appealing about the show was how Amanda wasn't a professional spy but still managed, on purpose or accidently, to solve the crimes. I loved that. I also liked that Scarecrow didnt take her seriouly and there was some tension between the two. I loved the funny ways that Amanda hid her new job and associates from her mother.
The show lost my interest when Amanda became a professional at the spy business, when Scarecrow took her seriously, and they had a relationship. They abandoned all of the traits of the show that made it different and appealing.

The biggest disapointment was the lack of the big finale. It just...ended. I still love watching the old episodes which I have on DVD (ordered it through some Canadian company) and I still get a thrill every time I see them. Not to mention, I have an increased appreciation for the banter and humor, especially the "verbal fruit salad" of Dr. Smythe.
The Kate Jackson illness thing is very unfortunate--viewers should have stuck with the show, realizing that it wasn't her fault she developed cancer and the writers couldn't scramble fast enough to patch the show together. Given enough time I think they could have gone on with some great eps.
I don't think it jumped. It was not the same at the end when she was sick and Lee had to work with Francine. I thought Kate and Bruce had the best on screen chemistry. I loved how they developed her character and their relationship as well. I would love to see a reunion movie. Though I am just dreaming. Hey if Hunter did it, why not Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
Actually I'd say it got better over time. At first she was "Just" a housewife who was a cover for a "real" agent, but over time she sort of became an agent too.
For me it's very much a guilty pleasure of my teen years because it's backlashing against feminism & playing up her housewife mother role as her primary vocation and implying that women aren't as good as men at these 'serious' sort of issues, incompentent at holding a gun or against violence, only good for seducing or tricking other agents with "feminine" wiles etc. etc.
Oh she annoyed me & I liked her at the same time & I really wanted her & Lee to get together. Oh & I LOVED his Corvette!

I'd say it jumped from the 2nd episode. Now don't get me wrong...there was never a show I was more addicted to. But it has got to be the corniest show ever, but somehow fun and funny also. Man, I was pathetic for this as a kid. So lame. I I even see clips I remember every shot and line spoken by the characters. Ahh, the 80s. A simpler time.
