The first thing that I would be interested in knowing is what happened to the post that I made less than twenty-four hours ago! The second thing is whether there ever really was a song by Elmo that had to do with families with two mommies or two daddies or anything like that. Any information that anyone can give me about either or both of the above would be very appreciated!
Sesame Street and CTW jumped the shark when the Twiddlebugs went to CGI and they stopped showing classic skits with characters like Fat Blue, Don Music, Sherlock Hemlock (Ernie's missing sandwich -- the best!!!), the Mad Painter(with a young Stockard Channing), Guy Smiley, Muppet News Flash, Monsterpiece Theatre, Kermit and the little girl doing "A-B-C-D-E-F-Cookie Monster!!!", the creepy rubberband guy counting to ten (Freaky!!!), and who can forget the best --- Bip Bippadotta singing Fat Cat Sat Hat (Oh, Yeah!).

Where has the talent, wittiness, and comedy gone? To the grave with Jim Henson. It's all about Elmo, Baby Bear and Zoe. I agree that each character deserves time on the show, but 15 MINUTES for a spotlight??? Elmo will NEVER be in the ranks of Grover, Bert and Ernie, Oscar, Kermit and Big Bird.

I was born only six months after Sesame Street originally aired, and it is a world of difference from when I watched it with my siblings as compared to watching it with my own children. I will never tell my 3 year old daughter that I think Elmo sucks, but the spirit of the show died the day that Jim Henson died.

VINTAGE SESAME STREET RULES!!!
I've seen some newer episodes of this show with Elmo and some of the newer Muppets- and it didn't seem all that bad to me! ;) for example, they have this newer muppet now called "Murray" who has a segment called "The word on the street". like this one time they said "octagon" and asked different people, what does that mean? and when they get done defining it, then it gets featured several times in that episode. and they seem to have enough humor in there for both adults and kids (which it always did a lot of anyway from the beginning). so I think it's still a good show, but they had to change it some to try to keep the attention of the kids. they have so many more things to watch and stuff to do than kids did like 10, 20 and even 30 years ago.
elmo is the best thing that ever happened to sesame street! i thought that the show was pretty boring without him.
Sesame street jumped the shark in 1998 when they gave Elmo the last 15 minutes of the show for his crap-fest 'Elmo's World'. Cute little crayon house, with live action Goldfish and all, but god, even back then as a 5 year old, I after about 3 times after watching the poorly executed recycled 'plot' of EW, I could basically predict an episode. 'The crap out of the closet falls, "lets ask a BAHYBEEE", Mr Noodle(the only good part IMO), Dorothy asks a kid, the TV and the Computer, dumb arse "Jingle Bells" song' I was bored after the 6th show, since it was the same old BS from the last episode (It seemed like they reused the entire tape of the episode, only editing in different children and changing the the word from Ball to Toy). I swear I lost a few IQ points with the "Jingle Bells" song at the end. I think this could have been executed better, but whoever made it rouined it.
Jumped the first time they showed the alley. Oscar lived in the garbage can. What a concept for children's education!
I grew up on the earliest Seseme Street episodes, and I turned on the show recently to check it out. One of the first things I saw on the screen was Elmo singing about how some families have 2 mommies and some families have 2 daddies...

Back when I was a little kid, Michelangelo and Donatello would eat nothing but pizza all day long, and nobody was concerned with child obesity.

My, how the times have changed...
Let em watch the Classic Episodes on Noggin, along with The New Zoo Revue (with Doug and Emmyjo), classic Electric Company with Tom Lehrer singing his little ditty about the parts of speech (Silent E, L-Y, etc) the Original Zoom Show, etc ad infinitum
One of my most cherished artifacts from my childhood is the 45rpm record of the Sesame Street theme song b/w Rubber Ducky. I played that record daily, usually many times over each day. It is mono and has a lot of scratches on it, but it still plays and every once in awhile I pull it out and play just for the memories.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, a 45rpm record was made out of vinyl and was the 'old school' equivalent of a CD single. One song per side, played on a record player (something else that has gone away with the advent of modern technology). Maybe not as convenient as a CD but definitely warmer and fuzzier!
Sesame Street has never jumped The Shark
in 38 seasons, until Season #39. I
didn't mind when they suddenly made CG1
animated versions of the Tweedle Bugs a
few years ago, but for this season,
Sesame Street has taken the smallest
step backwards since remaking in ribbon
effects "The Number Song". What's next,
a terribly drawn introduction sequence
for the 40'th Anniversary Special? I'm
sorry, Sesame Workshop, but this time,
Sesame Street has gone too far. If the
actual voices of Ernie & Bert including
Frank Oz see the new Claymation version
of their original Muppet counterparts,
I imagine Jim Henson must be rolling
over in his grave. I'm sure this error
will be corrected if enough loyal fans
of Sesame Street write a petition to
bring Ernie & Bert back to Muppet form
on the show, the way they were meant to
be seen. Don't mess with the classics.
ERNIE LAUGHS ("Che-he-he-he-he-he-he!")
BERT LAUGHS ("AAH-AH-AH-AH-AH-AH-AH!")
RICK.
You think the elephant and his voice are annoying, but Elmo and his voice aren't? Weird.
The annoying elephant...that friggin' voice is like alcohol in an open wound.

Elmo is like garlic: a little goes a long way, or there is no such thing as too much.

I must be a parent in the minority, becuase I grew up in the Kermit era, but I like Elmo alot.

Cookie Monster is the best character ever, but he works best when playing off of another human or muppet. He was even on The Colbert Report, talking about his cookie addiciton in the 70s and 80s. Too funny.
