I never understood why the produces of this show (Filmation) had to make Billy Batson gay. He wasn't gay in the comics and he did not need an old boyfriend to escort him around.

French-fry you made me laugh so hard my kids think I've gone over....When i watched this show with my brothers we'd always mention the fact that Mentor was a weirdo!!!!

In the Isis Intor/Crossover Ep, the Elders tell Mentor about Andrea and warn him to keep her secret ID a secret- yet he doesn't tell her what his given name is! Why is it so important for no one to know what Mentor's given name is? He's no superhero- just an old man driving a Winnebago who pulls over when the Elders want to nag Billy about something! It's never clear if Billy (or Captain Marvel) know his given name! Andrea should have insisted on seeing his driver's license before she went anywhere with him!

Thank You Torchkit! I thought I was the only one who thought that, It used to creep me out the way Mentor would keep staring at young Master Batson like he did. Even the name reeks of CHICKEN-Hawk! When I was 16 and if some mustachioed old creep in a winnebago with flowery curtains came up to me and told me his name was Mentor and he had the power of the Greek Mythos behind him (Yipes!)I'd scream that I needed an adult so quick and that would've been a helluva site for when I was 16, I was 6-feet tall and had a mohawk! and Debra, you were 16 when this show came on and you had a crush on Billy( Michael Gray) ever since he was on that ice-cream episode of the Bradys, I remember that cause Dad took the TV away from us every time we'd try to watch that show,and switch it over to candlepin bowling!-Debra's brother French~Fry! (you'd think it was still 1975 here) Dad's coming with the belt and he's pissed-RUN!

THE ONLY TIME SHAZAM JUMPED THE SHARK WAS ON THOSE ISIS CROSSOVER EPISODES! THEY HAD CAPTAIN MARVEL JUST HANGING OUT BY HIMSELF, OUT IN THE DESERT, LIKE HE HAD NOTHIN BETTER TO DO THAN WAIT ON A CROW FROM ISIS. WHAT, WAS HE STRANDED?

Who can forget the cartoon in MAD Magazine in which Billy Batson had the hiccups and transformed only halfway into Captain Marvel? It's like seeing Superman wearing Clark Kent's trousers!

I especially love when Shazam is "flying" and he looks like a hungover ex-super hero who would much rather be down at the track having a few beers than helping people. Especially because he seemed to be unable to do much anyway, Isis had to come in and pretty much fix the problem herself because this guy was a slacker and a half!

I was a big fan of the DC Shazam comic books at the time this show came out. I was shocked at how simplistic this show was, and especially how they presented Billy Batson. In the comics, Batson was an independently living kid, with a full time job as a star newcaster. But in the TV show, he was some teenager who had nothing better to do with his life than to tour the desert with a older male companion in a Winnebago.
