"Not only Smackdown but the whole WWE jumped the shark soon after Vince McMahon eliminated all of his competition."
Ding! We have ourselves a winner. Oh, sure. WCW was dead in the water and ECW couldn't hold a TV deal. Thus it was bound to happen. But it just seems that when Vince bought out his foes, the whole product went downhill. Almost as if there was this vibe of "Well, we are the champions and there's nothing left to fight for. So why bother?" The fire left when that happened. Of course, having to change to WWE because of some panda lovers didn't exactly help matters.
And to the people who dis TNA, I understand it completely. Some are complete loyalists to Vince. Fine and dandy. Some say it's not even a threat. That's true. But only because it takes a long time to be built up as even an equal to the empire. Think about it. WWE has been kicking for a looong while. It was somewhat reincarnated from McMahon Sr's vision and began that slow climb to being a juggernaught. It didn't happen overnight. It was a process made up of time, risk, and (to be honest) luck.
TNA, last I checked, hasn't even been in this game for a decade yet. It has a little bit of luck by going at it this far at this point of social dislike of professional wrestling as a whole. Is there enough to make that same climb? Only time can tell.
Sorry for the long rant.

Never Jumped. Jay, the PPV are great, and the stories are longer then a month, they just have more title matches in the stories. Now instead of waiting for a year to see one match that may not live up to the hype, you get lots of great matches in the stories. Corey, Vickie was kept around because of Eddie, but she has stuck around because she sells her character very well. She’s loathed and is a pretty good actress, while filling a non eye candy female role. I personally love her character. It’s different. Finally, for all you old men who wish it was like the “good ol days”, SUCK IT. Watching clips from the 70’s and before make me sick. The wrestling was awful. I can’t even watch classic Hogan from when I was a kid in the 80’s as it’s pretty bad. Especially his really early stuff. Super loose ropes. No real moves. Just fake hitting as they stamp their foot on the ground. It was fine for the time but now its crap. Why don’t all of you people who want to live in the past just die all ready if you hate how they wrestle now. Seriously.
to megan, I see what you're saying about Ric Flair. I just read an article on line which proves one of my "shark-jumping points"....not that this show jumped....some guy was being criticized for dressing as a wrestler and they poked fun at him for not having a shirt on...well, duh?! the real wrestlers are always shirtless just like most guys sleep without shirts on....tv is so fake this way
it stered 2 suck around da lat year 2004...stone cold wuz gone, the rock wus gone...and da reselers stared actin like they were actors...
Everyone REALLY need to see some celebrities on SmackDown. For example, Billy Ray Cyrus. Maybe that will shut Vickie Guerrero and Edge up!!!
In my opinion what is wrong with the WWE is that they have way to many TV shows and PPVs. In the 90's the WWE had probably its best wrestling, stories and so on. What did it was the wait for the next Monday Night Raw for the outcome. The PPVs I believe were about 3 months apart which brought the conculsion to some great story build ups. Now we have Smackdown that pretty much replays the main story going on Raw through out the show. Also, PPVs every month so no build up for great stories. Now we are left with bland quick outcome stories and boring PPV.
Vince: It is time to scrap the Vickie-Edge storyline. I believe the only reason Vickie is still around is for sympathy because she was married to Eddy Guerrero.
My best friend loves this show.
To her it's bigger than anything else.
She had a crush on stone cold and undertaker and would fight it out against a lesbian who had a crush on stone cold and undertaker.
She's now a slut with two kids among two partners living in housing on handouts.
Oh and being the kick ass cool WWE watching girl that she is...lost her kids to the state.

I have to agree with Cybernate. Promos, storylines, stunts, skits, and humanizing of the wrestlers should be completely scrapped and the premise of the original carnival spectacle should go back to it's roots. Two generic men, in a ring for an hour or so with nothing but rest holds and absolutely no build up for the reason as to why they're fighting each other in the first place. WWE would be laughing at American Idol as they fly by them in the ratings. Do it Vince!
I also propose that "***** games" be replaced with checkers, or a good ol' barrel hoop and T-stick.

Grew up watching the AWA. I appreciate the athleticism, but there's something that is always "just not right" with WWE to me. Wrestlers having intimate dialogues with each other while holding microphones and standing in a ring surrounded by thousands of fans...WEIRD! All that is apparently needed to become a pro wrestler these days is to live in the house that steroids built. And some of the acting is so bad..it's hard to believe they put it on national TV! I mean take for example a "classic" WWE character: Undertaker; do you see how fakey it looks when he is "punching" someone??? And his "wrestling" style involves almost nonstop "punches". I guess no matter how much wrestling fans complain, they are just stuck with inferior product, thanks to lack of choices. WWE has "jumped the shark" from day one and so many more times again, that maybe we could replace the phrase "jumped the shark" with "WWE".
