NEVER JUMPED!! This show should have been on much longer than it was; it was a perfect blend of action, comedy, scifi and social commentary! Network basically killed it by putting it up against "Murphy Brown", which was a top-rated show at that time, so the network basically committed it to suicide by putting it in that time slot! I think it would have lasted longer if given a different time slot!
Loved the show and plan to buy the dvd. Anyways, the questions someone had about the Frnsisco family all around the ICU. From what I remember they got better because the doctor realized that Emily was getting better and it was because of the rise in her hormones. She was beginning puberty So the cure was to put the hormones in the people that were sick and they would get better.
if you look at the show you will see that the cop did not hate the aliens one of the aliens killed hes partner so he was not happy the them but hate no
This show expressed intelligence and depth of emotion, which must be "alien" to human beings, we certainly don't act like that, not even in an idealized world, and anyway, can't have any of that, so Fox killed it! Bastards.
I liked this one. Thought indeed the episode about a special type of man needed to create new offspring...
Well, eh... no.
Overall: great show!

Liked it in the early 90s. Saturday night, you don't go out that late... you come home, get yourself a drink and watch this show. Great memories!
(I live in Holland by the way)
New to this site: Loved Alien Nation; taped episodes while watching. Didn't see the original movie prior to series & thought (original) movie was lame in comparison. Watched the couple "full length" movies subsequent to series' end . . .

Anyway, series seemed to just "go off the air":

Question: What happened in the "final reel?" Entire Fransisco Family in ICU & all seemingly close to death . . . Matt & Kathy there . . .

I also loved "Farscape" on SCI-FI & that show seems to have bit the dust without an "ending", too.

Please advise!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!
I ENJOYED THE SERIES ITS BETTER THEN WHAT WE HAVE ON TV NOW . I WISH I COULD BUY MORE OF THE SERIES ON DVD.
It jumped, at least a little, for me when Uncle Timothy Leary (whatever they called him) strode out into the ocean and didn't get burned.

When science-fiction shows start working with mystical stuff (viz esp. Andromeda) they both break the rules (s.f. is an essentially naturalistic look at the universe and our place in it, mysticism generally thinks that what we think and feel directly influence reality, as opposed to via our agency) and stray into areas the writers are even less competent to write about than vaguely scientific stuff.
basically Coneheads as a drama with a guy who looks like a poor man's Mick Jagger!
My fiancee and I just watched the entire first season on DVD, and it is hilarious to read all the nerds' comments above, since both the people who loved the show and hated the show seem to have really exaggerated ideas of what the series was like - time will do that to your memory. (I especially liked the comment about the "alien letting a human bang his wife in a double vagina" - it never happened, and I wonder what this guy's dreams are like.) The show was canceled because Fox expanded its line-up too quickly in the 1989-1990 TV seasons. That's the only reason this show got canceled. As it went on, the series gelled and found its way. Gary Graham's quirks became an integral part of the character - Sikes' abusive past was an important subtext to his behavior on the show. Action sequences were a little awkward in the beginning, as well, but improved greatly during the course of the season. As for all the sci-fi alien stuff: the biological, linguistic and spiritual characteristics of the Tenctonese never conflicted; they obviously had a strong series bible from the beginning. The series dropped subtle hints about Tenctonese behavior early on and consistently expanded upon them. Additionally, the series had some surprisingly good guesses about the future - CD-Roms, widespread environmentalism, and bottles of water, for example - as well as funny guesses: Rambo 6, German slang, Surprisingly liberal in its point of view and certainly impressive for Hollywood sci-fi.
"Alien Nation" was the greatest show EVER on TV! Period. It had the best of EVERYTHING : ) -- except maybe publicity. :( "A.N." Never Jumped. Maybe it "skipped" a little -- the TV movies didn't focus enough on the relationship between Matt and George, as the regular show did. Maybe that was to be expected -- because they knew each other now, after all. (Still, couldn't one or both of them have gotten amnesia or something? And why not play up on George becoming Matt's boss?) Even though it "skipped" a little, "A.N." was, till the very last TV Movie, (so far!), it was still head and shoulders above EVERY other TV show I have ever seen. That's why I've become the new President of the Alien Nation Appreciation Society!
When everything became the opposite. The writers had no imagination. I can picture them in a brain storming sessions. "Oh, I know....Kids drink beer, adults drink milk." "Oh yeah, and the milk gets them DRUNK!." "I got one... the men have the babies"( and why does an implanted embryo produce labor pains and moans that exactly copy a human female?) Oh well, it's been gone for a long time and I can't remember all the opposites. but I do remember that I lost interest in what could have been a good show when all that became too obvious.
Never jumped. Great show about racism, and its effects, for those who miss the show there are some Alien Nation novels worth checking out: "Slag Like Me" and "Passing Fancy."
OK, when George had a baby. Come on!!!!! An alien cop wearing maternity clothes and having all of the feelings of a new mommy?? Time to close the set and start writing another show
I do not think it jumped. I always loved the names the aliens had - Marvin Gardens, Virginia Hamm, Norman Conquest, and my favorite Leonard "Len" Guini. Writers worked overtime to come up with some of those to fulfill the original plotline reason for them.
