im going to keep this simple. SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
Who knows why one mediocre show succeeds, while another terrific and innovative one gets prematurely (and unfairly) yanked?
Answer that and you'll be rich beyond avarice.
This gem was never given its fair chance.
The "What if" premise was a hoot, and I was immediately hooked.

It never fails:
Discover a show you really like;
Start watching it on a regular basis;
-It gets canned.-
...We really got gypped on this one.
Best Show Ever
The process is simple. 1) A hilarious show appears on Fox; 2) I begin to watch it faithfully; 3) It's REALLY well-written; 4) It's off the air.
Another great, smartly written, brilliantly cast sitcom that the average American dolt cant understand....much like we're seeing now with "Arrested Development." No wonder the networks can keep up with cable. Take a risk! Loyal fans of this level of humor are more apt to be affluent (sorry to stereotype here) and thus more deserving of being catered to by networks and advertisers. Im sorry that I see a similar fate for "Arrested Development."
Absolutely brilliant, truly hilarious show. Disgusting that something this good could be shafted by a network after such a short run. Shame Fox shame. Horrible corporate shortsightedness at its very worst.
*sigh* .. there was nothing showbiz-related that made me sadder than when I knew this stunningly good show was cancelled. Fox wouldn't know a good show if it snatched their butt cheeks with a giant metal jaw. Why would ANYONE cancel a show like this? As good as Malcolm in the Middle has been, I never thought it could have been outdone, but I was proven wrong. Andy Richter CTU is the definitely THE funniest, most intelligent, most hilarious sitcom OF ALL TIME. Period. Each character had its own life, its own style. And the writing, oh my God. Did the Farrelly brothers have anything to do with this? Because ARCTU *exceeded* the threshold of laughter set by American sitcoms, and reached new heights of making you laugh. Andy was the average joe, the underdog, the guy on the street, who everyone identified with. Byron, the scrawny underdog (him too) geek, was insanely funny. In the show, he never attempted to make jokes (a la Matthew Perry's Chandler), rather his comedy arose from how he viewed life and dealed with the everyday situations. Wendy, the sultry, smoking-hot clerk was so straightforward and honest it was surprisingly humorous. She caught everyone off guard, not knowing it and not intending to. Keith was the impossible good-looking lover of Wendy (so good looking he makes me jealous), who had an everlasting smile and incredibly cool attitude about everything. He could smile through the most tense situations and act as if he didn't care, and he didn't! HILARIOUS! And Jessica, oh my God. the face says it all. Is that woman beautiful? Or is she beautiful? And that body, God. To have a boss like that one day. Well, she's hot, but as hot as she is, she's funny, being the deadpan, strict, no-nonsense boss. The writing has to be viewed and seen to be believed. no matter how much I shower it with praise, I will NEVER do it justice. The direction is nothing short of superb. One of my favorite episodes was when Conan O'Brian showed up as the VERY weird, bizarre, oddball, INSANE, confusing new boss. What a laugh riot. Staring at Andy eating his donut with a little, inexplicable smile, making Andy nervous, prompting him to ask, "Do you want it?". Oh my God, so funny. This show will remain THE greatest, most humorous, most intelligent, best-written sitcom in history, hands down. Andy Richter Controls the Universe is the new standard by which all top-notch shows will be judged, and which all should aspire to emulate, much less top.
Once again, Fox cancels a great show before it has the chance to hit its prime. Andy Richter is insanely funny when he wants to be, and on this show, it proves just that. It was funny, smart, and well-written. Almost too good for Fox. It should've been on Comedy Central. Or, even better, it would've been great on HBO. But... how could Andy go from this show... to Quintuplets, which is just another Full House clone? Why Andy Why? Please quit that turd of a show and come back to this one! Please!
This show absolutely never ever jumped. It was just plain brilliant. It was a little different but that was what made it great.
Never jumped. Another victim of 'The Great Quality Purge' of 2003. This was the same season that saw gems like 'Mister Sterling' and 'Firefly' axed. No new show with ANY redeeming value was allowed to live to see a second season. Andy was too good for FOX, and ARCTU RULED!!! Smart, hilarious writing, tight cast and, of course, Andy. Who doesn't love this man? My favorite episode (and a memorable one for other posters, I've noticed) was the one where he insults his Black/Irish coworker. Great stuff.
This was another case of a show being too smart and too quick for its own good. That, and Fox owns football, and screws with its Sunday night lineup time and time again! But Andy Richter was truly likeable in his role, and it gave me hope for his career after "Conan." His fantasy sequences, his coworkers-- what were they, book publishers? Magazine editors?-- and their problems. God, I knew it was doomed from the second I realized I loved it. I'm cursed. Or cursed to love cursed shows. But I think some of the best moments were: Andy trying to stop twins from tag-team sleeping with his friend, so he said, "first I surreptitiously inject him with radioactive dye..." Then, where the one guy (sorry I can't remember any names) joined the cult that believed god was a sheep in the sky that protected everyone. And the one where Andy was accused of being racist b/c he insulted his African-American coworker's Irish heritage, and the whole office had to go to sensitivity training, and then he started dating the guy's sister, and they feared people would have a problem with their relationship b/c they both hated Riverdance. And of course, Andy's fear that their sandwich delivery guy was Hitler. "Andy, for God's sake, the man would be 106 yrs old!!" I hope this one hits DVD soon! Or that someday there's a Wrongfully Cancelled channel created. It'd be pretty full.
This is one of those shows that is funny as hell but not in the obvious sort of way most moron t.v. watchers will understand. They should bring those show back in a couple of years. It was just ahead of its time...like Jay Mohr's show "Action".
Dude. Why does Fox only cancel the good shows? I think Andy Richter was the. coolest. show. EVER. We get to watch reruns of Cops and Who Wants to Marry a Moron XII, but if there is actually something witty, intriguing, entertaining and cool it gets canceled. They did the same thing to Greg the Bunny, Futurama, Dark Angel, TITUS, and That 80's Show, to name a few. Damn, that sucks! There was this one episode where some chick says: The boy Andy kissed has allergies!" And Andy tells someone else that it was slang for "thats wonderful honey!" Can someone tell me what this was all about? My friend and I saw it and we always say it to each other now; as in: "you won a free Pepsi? the boy andy kissed has allergies!" well anyway, just thought yall should know.
This is a pretty funny show but I keep getting the impression that somebody cloned Drew Carey.
Fox, in typical fox fashion never gave this show a chance to run it's course. They seem to cancel every new show if it's not getting american idol type publicity after the first season or they move it to that Friday night blackhole time slot.
