I don't think that I saw that much of "Another World," but I also think that its opening titles could be reason enough for a shark jump. To each his/her own, of course, but I thought that the paintbox titles with "Another World" in cursive paled in comparison to the titles that came before-- namely, the "block-letters." I used to be very scared of that one to where I could hardly stand it, but now, as time has passed, I have mellowed to it to the point that I strongly believe that it was one of the best, no doubt. The 1981-93 titles of "ATWT" rank right up there with the "block-letters" of "AW," IMHO.
The late 70s and early 80s were the years I watched AW and I LOVED IT! Mac and Rachel were the best couple of all soaps! Victoria Wyndham and Doug Watson were superb! It went downhill when Donna Majewski (was that her name?) took over as head writer....she is soley responsible for ruining a great show.
HUGE fan, on and off from the late 60s until the early 90s. LOVED both "Somerset" and "Texas".

Expanding it to 90 minutes scared away and bored so many fans, alot of us flipped over to (abc) "General Hospital". I would flip back and forth between "Texas" and "General Hospital".

I would say they jumped the shark when NBC pushed them to expand to 90 minutes in early 1979.
We share the same semtiments. Frankie was the only reason I started watching AW. I didnt see her when she first started but I wish I did. By the time the had killed her off I wasnt in tuned with it because of school. I dont remember any scenes of her funeral but sure would like to see them, even her death I didnt get to see. I wish I could my meet someone who has recordings from April 1989 to when she stopped appearing as Frankie. Is there anyway you can send me some of those. If u can I will be your frined for life. >>Wonder what happened to Tom Eplin and if he still looks sexy in a leather jacket!<<

Yeah, he does!
I watched Another World for as long as I can remember until it was canceled. I know it was a very sad thing when Frankie was killed, but I was young and my mother had it taped and would not let me see those actual scenes. It is strange that this many years later it still bothers me that I never got to see it. Frankie was my favorite character on the show and it was like there was no closure. I've tried looking on You Tube for it, but cannot find it. Any one know where a video of it can be found?
This was my favorite favorite daytime show. Unlike GH with its over-the-top storytelling, and B&B, with its focus on the most glamorous of them all, AW seemed to (almost) be about real people. Up til its final year, it focused on relationships and characters rather than supernatural/fantasy stories. Writers stayed true to the psychology of the characters and plumbed the depths of their motives, from the tangled web between Vicky/Jake/Marley to the growth of Carl Hutchins from gleeful villain to flawed but stalwart family man.
And Cass and Felicia were my favorite pair because they were simply best friends. Rather than getting together at the end, they went from fling to solid friendship, a bond that, as in real life, sometimes runs deeper than romantic love. Kudos to the writers for that one.
I'd say that final year, with the Lumina/hypnosis/reincarnation thing, brought the shark AW's way, but I know for a fact the show was already on its way toward being cancelled before that debacle. It might indeed have been the death of Frankie, which brought Cass such anguish and made him a supporting character with nothing to do until Lila came along.
I cried at the end, and I followed Jake McKinnon (easily my favorite character) and AW's exec producer to ATWT (which I still watch today! Check it out.) :)
The Jordan Stark storyline.
I did get into the show in the 80s up until the point they recasted Paulina with Judi Evans I said I'm not watching this show. Even though my favorite Cecile came back from time to time in the 90's but at that point I expressed other interest when Another World was on the air. Thanks to the decision of hiring Judi Evans made me stop watching.
I too loved Tom Eplin but I fear he "blimped out".Yes,I have countless memories of this show, mostly good ones unlike Ryan's Hope, which was like a St.Patrick's Day freak show.Right after Another World bit the dust, many of the actors suddenly appeared on other soaps,Eplin even as his Another W.character.Remember Heche?Something unspeakably horrible about Another W. must have driven her bonkers and turned her into the worlds only straight lesbian or gay straight woman even having her turn up at a families farm and claim alien abduction....well,let's not get into Fallon Carrington from Dynasty/The Colby's.......
When I was in high school, my friends and I got our lunch break at 1 and we'd RACE to my friend Laura's house and watch Another World. We'd grab Cokes from the fridge, make sandwiches and sit glued to the screen. Each one of us had our favorite character. Mine was Tom Eplin as Jake. The misunderstood Bad Boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Also liked Frankie Frame because she was quirky and had a unique sense of style. Those are happy memories. I know that sounds kind of silly, but all of us kept watching when we graduated and attended college. We even e-mailed each other if one of us missed an episode. I'm not much of a soap opera fan these days. Y & R's plot moves sooooo slowly. One Life to Live tries too hard to appeal to young viewers. Days of Our Lives keeps recycling the same tired storylines that usually revolve around Marlena. I miss Another World. It's obvious I'm not the only one. Wonder what happened to Tom Eplin and if he still looks sexy in a leather jacket! :)
To Robin in Belize.I doubt this will ever come out on DVD.They would have to sell thousands of episodes. There would be dozens of seasons, with one year containing about 261 eisodes and you'd need about 65 four disk sets per year for that times the run of the show(Was it 40 plus years?)So we are talking a minimum of 2600 sets at 20 to 50 dollars a piece. That would cost you 52,000 to 130,0000 Dollars to own the show!!!!!
Miss it terribly.Frankie's murder was cruel and vicious however. With the crapola on TV now, they might consider reviving it.
I LIVE IN BELIZE AND I WOULD LIKE A DVD COLLECTION OF ANOTHER WORLD, WHERE CAN I ORDER THIS?
I loved Another World. It came on when my son took his nap. I started watching it then and was hooked after a week. I loved the Jake/Marley/Vicky storyline. I loved Paulina and Jake. Charles Keating was wonderful as was Victoria. Jensen Buchanan and Tom Eplin were so good together. I remember to this day the way Vicky sounded with Jake told her Ryan had been shot. I also remember when Vicky realized that Michael had been killed trying to stop her from ruining her marriage to Jake because of Shane. So much of it though turned ridiculous as they time and again threatened to cancel it. Now after watching the reruns before Soapnet cancelled it, I realize it was so much better than anything that is on now. It was a shame that they cancelled it. I will always love it.
